The GCB is a commando infantry unit operating ahead of armoured elements. Its tasks include advanced reconnaissance, observation and threat identification while maintaining direct communication with mechanised crews.

Its approach relies on shared procedures and experience between infantry and armoured crews, particularly with the 7th Armoured Brigade, in order to improve their co-ordination on the ground.
